Low Carb Diets, Foods And Plans Can Keep You Healthy

The carb conscious and the carb crazed

It is an unfortunate side-effect of our culture that there is so much pressure to be thin and not nearly enough pressure to be simply healthy. Many of us want to have the perfect body with the least amount of effort on our part and in the shortest amount of time. This is one of the factors that helped low carb diets gain as much popularity as they have. Most of the low carb diets, when properly adhered to, really do help you to shed a few pounds in a very short time, but they lack in terms of their emphasis on overall health. We should try to follow a balanced diet rich in good carb foods and exercise.

Finding your balance on a low carb diet

There are quite a few things that are wrong with a lot of the most famous low carb diets. One of the most common drawbacks to the diet that those who have tried it will attest to is that most of the diets are not suitable for long periods of time. Restricting your carb intake and eating only very low carb foods will cause you to lose some weight, but when you return to your original lifestyle, you will end up gaining back the weight plus some.

A low carb diet will cause your metabolism to shift and this shift will cause the body to store up all of the carbs that you eat when you are off the diet and this helps to add even more weight. Also, many people have a tendency to gorge on the things that have been off limits for sometime and this too adds to the inevitable weight gain. A carb counter can help with all this.

It is a shame that many of the diets that were so popular for so long did not, from the very beginning, stress that the diet did not stop at a few months of carb counting, it really entails a lifestyle change and change in the type of foods that you consume. In order to get the weight off and actually keep it off means making changes that you can stick with and maintain.

More carb insight for you to contemplate

People don't often tell you that overdoing this anti-carbohydrates craze can lead to conditions you don't want. Another drawback to these diets is that they catered to our overly sedentary lifestyles. They focused solely on counting carbs and restricting them over time. There was barely a mention of the fact that you can really only do your body good if you combine your diet with regular exercise. You can really only restrict your carb intake so much if you are also exercising.
