If you're on a low carb diet, you might wonder what kinds of low carb snacks you can have. Let us help you out.
Healthy Low Carb Snacks
Anytime you cut sugar or white flour out of your diet, it's a good thing. But being on a low carb diet can make it difficult to find low carb snacks. Luckily, food producers are beginning to realize that a lot of people are looking for low carb food, including low carb snacks. Now, you might have to get creative and think outside the box on this one. First of all, you could turn to string cheese as a snack, or a few ounces of deli turkey. Even a small can of tuna can be a healthy snack. And Kraft now makes a whole line of South Beach Diet foods, including cookies, crackers and cheese. There are even seasoned chicken pieces you can add to salads or just eat by themselves as a snack. These are all great low carb snacks, just remember to read the labels to keep track of your carb count.
Other popular low carb snacks are low carb bars and low carb shakes, but some of these are designed to be meal replacements, so if you turn to these as low carb snacks, be sure to keep track of your calories. It doesn't matter what kind of diet you're on--if you're eating 5,000 calories a day, no diet is going to help you lose weight. Another good alternative is nuts--especially almonds. Nuts might have a lot of fat, but it's the good fat that doesn't damage your heart. However, these are caloric too, so enjoy in moderation.
Of course, you can always find low carb recipes on the Internet so you can have low carb treats on hand. Check out this recipe for low carb peanut butter cookies:
